Third Ministerial Summit on Productivity
Hotel Tequendama Bogota, Colombia. October 25th
Harnessing the digital transformation to boost productivity in Latin America and the Caribbean

About

The Third Ministerial Summit on Productivity: Harnessing the Digital Transformation to Boost Productivity in Latin America and the Caribbean is jointly organised by the National Planning Department of Colombia and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in partnership with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), under the auspices of the European Union Regional Facility for Development in Transition, the OECD Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the OECD Global Forum on Productivity.

The Third Ministerial Summit on Productivity takes place in the context of slow and diverging productivity growth, a matter of pressing concern for Latin American and Caribbean countries. According to OECD indicators, trend labour productivity annual growth in five main LAC countries declined from 2.2% in the decade preceding the global financial crisis to about 1.6% in 2018. This slowdown occurred despite digital technologies spreading rapidly with, in particular, the rising use of mobile broadband connecting more and more people to digital networks. Yet the region still fails to use more advanced digital technologies in its business sector, which is vital to revive the region’s productivity growth and therefore facilitate stronger workers’ earnings and sounder public finances. The digital transformation therefore represents an opportunity for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.

The Ministerial Summit is divided in two parts. A public open session from 8h to 11h30 that includes three public panels and the Ministerial closed session from 12 to 18h45 which will gather authorities from LAC and OECD countries as well as international organisations.
